Where would I be without my black leather gloves in this weather?  They have been an essential part of my wardrobe since November time and with this most recent wintery chill, I don’t see that changing anytime soon.
They are only the second pair of leather gloves I’ve owned.  The first ones met a gruesome and tragic end when I lost them to a greedy horse during a carriage ride in Central Park, NY.  I suppose that’s what I get for indulging in cheesy tourist attractions.  However, with every cloud comes a silver lining and finding myself gloveless in NY I took the opportunity to go shopping for a replacement pair.  This time I chose wool instead of leather and I can honestly say they just weren’t the same.
For starters, they didn’t last anywhere near as long as my leather gloves (I had the first ones for 4 years).  After 3 weeks my woolly replacements ended up in the bin when my keys caught on a thread and unravelled too many stitches to repair.  When I went to purchase a new pair I found it difficult to find a pair versatile enough to wear for both work and evening.  Then it was almost impossible to find any in plain black; cutesy patterns and bright colours seemed to be all that was on offer.  In the end I reverted back to leather.
As a Christmas gift my parents bought me my second pair, in black of course for versatility, with a sweet bow detail on the cuff.  After several cold winters they’re still going strong; the leather remains soft and the fit is perfectly snug.  The classic style makes them wearable for every occasion and every part of them offers a timeless elegance to my outfits during the colder months, something knitted gloves can’t pretend to offer.
If you're finding yourself swayed by the idea I’d recommend these below.  Available from Dents, a favourite of the Queen’s, they are superbly priced at just £52.00.  And if you're planning to be in Central Park, NY anytime soon, just be sure to keep them away from a horse named 'Buster'.
